It seems 5-10 MB of ROM is unreadable .Thats why you couldnt create files in /system/etc or anywhere in /system .
In some cases Link2SD faulted ,in others the system was totally locked (S-O!!
Anyway ,started and patched from scratch should work now

I’ve been reading this site from its beginning but I’ve always got stock roms. Now I’m ready to change this thing. I’ve made ext2 partition ~700mb on sd card. Arkas 1.6 Patched working fine but internal memoryy is the same about 155mb + about 3GB on sd card.
How to make working this ext2 partition? I thought that it will be like “internal memory is 855MB.
I’m trying a2sd method. You’ve said copy 07a2sd to /init. I open it with text editor and it’s unreadable. Anyone help please?

I moved flozd a2sd script to etc/init.d/ and then i executed it. I’ve got msg “script is working ” or similar but what to do next? If I’ll try to install app how to install it to ext2?
You just need to copy the script to /system/etc/init.d/ like you did, make sure the permissions are the same as the others with “ls -l” and “chmod” if needed. Then reboot and it should work, no need to run it manually.
If it isn’t working after that, format the partition to ext4. Oh and check the space with titanium or so, system will still report internal.
Just change permissions to chmod 755 and reboot .
Apps installed in internal memory will be directly transferred to sd card except /data/data/* folder

Yes, you’re not alone. Yesterday GSM was working and wifi for a while. After 1h wifi was no working anymore. Today I woke up and try to contact with someone by the phone. GSM is no working. So o we’ve got No connection by wifi or gsm. WTF

wifi only connect for 2-5 minutes, after that disconnect itself, have configure the wifi sleep policy though…
gsm, sometimes it provides low signal
compare to 1.5 or cm7 that always provide full signal in my area

The WiFi does have problems in some phones .
The temporary fix is
#rmmod ar6000.ko
#insmod /system/wifi/ar6000.ko
That should fix your problem in one boot 🙂 .

Have you ever had a virus then? Remember this is basically linux, not windows 😉 Those things only slow your phone down.
Just stay away from warez/pirated apps and keep an eye on permissions .

I use Win 7 and still dont have AVs 😛 .I have Firewall though 😉 . It’s about how malware spreads in each OS . The Android AVs are pretty much useless since Android market filters the malware !!!.

KPF is the radio of 2.3.4
KPK is the radio of 2.3.6 (old)
KP1 is the radio of 2.3.6 (new)XEO KPG which is compatibble with Arkas 1.6
These are three distinct files
KPF and KPK work on older builds but has problems with Arkas 1.6/Perseus XL/Arkas 1.2.3
KP1 works on all builds it seems including the above three
so i flash kp1 like i flash arkas right,???????flashing in 5 minutes will give feedback shortly

Did you check wireless and Networks –> mobile Networks –> use only 2G option ?

I’m new in flashing 551,and after I read the comments here,I think that this Arkas 1.6 is the newest and quite stable ROM,so I decided to try it. The 551 is still in froyo 2.2 stock ROM,it’s an indonesian ROM but I havent checked the baseband version. It’s my friend’s actually. I have experience with Odin b4,coz I’m using it to flash my Fit.
Can I do like this :
1)Flash GB ROM with Odin ( I’m gonna use I5510XWKPG – XEO) as one package
2)Reboot,then
3)Flash arkas 1.6 updated with Odin as one package also
4)Hard Reset
Is that the right thing to do? And if I want to a2sd to works do I need to partition my SDcard first to make room for internal memory?

Yes You need dual SD card for Custom Apps TO SD like Link2SD and Darktremors a2sd
But GB a2SD doesn’t require Partitioned SD cards

I dont think so . ext4 and rfs have roughly equal performance (ext4 is faster ) . you wont see any drop in app performance using either of the two a2SD’s

I rolled back to Arkas 1.6 after Perseus XL made my alarm klock crash, which made me miss an exam >_< No fault of the developer of coarse 😛 should have used a backup. It was also a bit too unstable too use normally.
Went back to stock, installed CWM, reformatted the sdcard with gparted, installed KP1 radio, cleaned up a lot of apps, and I have to say it is pretty awesome! 😀

Btw, it seems there’s a problem with custom ringtones and notifications in 1.6 and XL. When choosing them the settings dialog crashes. And sometimes it just chooses a random one. They’re placed in /media/audio/notifications. Wonder if it’s verifiable or else maybe it’s the sdcard.
hi skilled…,i flashed my galaxy 551 with new XEO XWKPG and rooted it with your root.zip.then i copied the framework-res.apk using root explorer and modified it.after that when i try to replace the framework-res.apk using root explorer it gives me an error “not enough free space available” or something like that,i don’t remember it.same error using adb also.the thing is that after the error the stock framework-res.apk is also gone so the phone get stuck.and only boot if i re flash it(i know without framework-res.apk it won’t boot).even if i delete the stock framework res.apk before copying the modified one the memory doesn’t increasing it stuck with 3.16 mb.why did this happening i used to do this process on froyo without any problem…
how can i replace the file with modified one…PLEASE HELP ME……:(

There are many issues involved
I dont remember how much space stock framework takes but ,UOT frameworks dont use compression .XEO-KPG is very stingy stock ROM . 3 MB is not something you can fix . So if the mod framework crosses the threshold even by little then the framework wont be copied .
Also you need to set permissions in GB to 755 before rebooting .

Ok…i did’n understand why this is happening.normally when we replace something the original file will get deleted and the new one pasted,but in my case the original file get deleted but there is no space difference after that so the new one didn’t pasted there..

You can do that .But you cant use Froyo Framework on GB .You can use Froyo icons though . You can use Arkas 1.2.3 if you want to stay close to Stock XEO-KPG .

If you want hd games, buy a phone that can play hd games. Our galaxy 551 does not have the processor to do it, nor the screen resolution to play HD games.

I have found what caused the display bug. I opened all my g551’s and one of them had a different marking on its display. So i flashed a rom with the display bug and voila, there it did not work. I think it has to do that due to a lack of samsung tft panels, we used some sony displays (i can confirm this). The drivers of the samsung screens are not so compatible with the sony screens. The sony ones are however compatible with the samsunhg one’s, so that is why some roms work and some dont.

This is a bit of a random question, but how do i get the stock livewallpapers on this rom? I pulled them from my nexus one on 2.3.6 and used root explorer to paste it, then set the permisions (i guess thats how it is spelled) just like the other apps and rebooted. It did not detect them
It should work fine .copy the files and reboot phone
skilled i have used the ArkaS 1.6 and wanted to upgrade the cpu using no-frills and overclock to 800Mhz but it’s always restart the phone and i tried the 787 and it’s still restart the phone and went back to normal 600Mhz 😦 . Skilled do you know how to stable the performance so when it’s restart does not go to the normal again 🙂

The max stable varies phone to phone .
691 is stable on all phones . 729 is stable on my phone .
768 is the max I can push .
However above 710Mhz ,the speed is not really required

hey i’m new to custom roms…so i downloaded arkas 1.6 and it all worked fine.. so after going through few posts i realized v can increase the internal memory of the phone by partitioning the sd card to ext3.. can u plz give a detailed method to partition my sd card..?? and to create the ext3 partition.

That depends on what you want . You need to set governor for the battery .

Im currently running the latest 2.3.6 build on my 551..The problem is that my phone seems to be draining battery very fast.The main culprits are cell standby and phone idle..Even in flight mode my phone drains 2-3% per hour..I think i have been observing this trend since updating to gingerbread from froyo..I swithced back to froyo couple of days ago and it actually lasted lot longer.But i couldnt stand the laggy froyo after experiencing gingerbread so had to flash back to 2.3.6..Is this an issue with everyone or is it just me?Recently i was on a trip along with my friends where there wont be any cell phone signal, so i put it in flight mode in the mrng when it was at 97% only too see it at 60-65% at 6 in the evng…i barely took it out of my pocket…Hope you can help
Yes .The problem was the 97% . You should charge your phone till Total 100% .However newer GB arkas and perseus have aggressive kernels.Also ,Froyo stock had conservative governor IMO and GB stock has ondemand governor
It was 97 cause it used it for a while before putting it in flight mode.I generally charge overnight,so im sure il have full 100% at morning.And this has been the case everyday..So its not just a single day problem…Anyway will try conservative governor for a couple of days and get back to you…thanks

Btw i think i found why camera glitches over 600mhz; it might be about vsync… if there is an option, kernel should be recompiled with vsync off… also if we have some voltage adjustment the phone can see 800mhz stable…

I finnaly decided to update my Galaxy 551 device to Android 2.3.6 xeo kpg and then to Arkas 1.6. It worked really well here! I own a GT-I5510 in Brazil, however I think it is imported because it is not a i5510L. GPS and WiFi working!!

If you want to be lazy ,just copy 07a2sd file to /system/etc/init.d folder and reboot the phone ,
Files will be copied to Second sd card partition by default ,only a small part will remain in internal memory
